Clear Gold: Water as a Strategic Resource in the Middle East

The real wild card for political and social unrest in the Middle East over the next 20 years is not war, terrorism, or revolution – it is water. Conventional security threats dominate public debate and government thinking, but water is the true game-changer in Middle Eastern politics.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies, Middle East Program examined the strategic implications of water scarcity and the Program Director, Dr. Jon Alterman hosted a release of the report, titled “Clear Gold,” at an event on Dec 13, 2010. This video provides the report launch and features keynote remarks from General Anthony Zinni, former Commander in Chief of U.S. Central Command.
