Steve LeVine, writing on FP.com’s “Geopolitics of Oil,” talked about the “get off foreign oil” mantra which he labeled code for getting off “Saudi Arabian crude — and that we must generally distance ourselves from the kingdom and its leaders.” He goes on to challenge such “canards” with a review of the partnership between the US and Saudi Arabia including recent events like counter terrorism intelligence alerts from the Kingdom, support on regional security issues like Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the approach to challenges like Iranian hegemony in the Gulf.
