A Saudi woman competing in a show called “Poet of Millions” (a format derived from the U.S. “American Idol” television show) has attracted attention, including threats, with her poetry that criticizes conservative clerics in the Kingdom. Hissa Hilal, a Riyadh housewife and mother of four children said, “My poetry has always been provocative .. It’s a way to express myself and give voice to Arab women, silenced by those who have hijacked our culture and our religion,” according to a Huffington Post writer citing the AP.
